An Exploration of Online Abbreviations in Network Media Platforms

Abstract


With the rapid development of network information technology and the increasing frequency of online communication, abbreviations in network media platforms have emerged as a significant linguistic phenomenon. Network abbreviations serve not only as convenient tools in online communication but also as a microcosm of network culture and language development. This paper aims to explore the origins, types, characteristics, and impacts of abbreviations in network media platforms. Through in-depth research on network abbreviations, this paper reveals the unique roles of network language in terms of communication efficiency and cultural expression, and puts forward reasonable suggestions for standardizing the use of abbreviations on network platforms, providing a new perspective for understanding network language phenomena.
