A Thorough Study of Ancient and Modern Fusion of Chinese and Western—On William Hung’s Position in Modern Chinese Academic History

Abstract

William Hung is an outstanding historian and educator in modern China. The characteristics of William Hung’s history governance are noble patriotism, truth—seeking historical spirit, scientific research method and so on. William Hung’s academic activities mainly include the establishment of professional journals and the formation of an academic community dominated by teachers and students of Yenching University; Presided over the establishment of Harvard-Yenching Society “Introduction and compilation Office”, compiling series of Chinese studies introduction; Compiling the Format of Research Papers and standardizing the writing of academic papers. According to the standards of modern western universities, he set up disciplines and cultivated talents in a planned way, and vigorously carried out library construction.
