Disclosing and Disappearing: The Relationship between Self-disclosure and Intentions to Ghost

Abstract


Two studies conducted here to test the relationship between the level of self-disclosure and ghosting intentions. Ghosting, the act of terminating a relationship by abruptly cutting off all communication. Although ghosting has become a common dissolution strategy across digital communication environments, little is known about how personality is relate to intention to ghost and the likelihood of engaging in ghosting behavior. The present research focuses on self-disclosure, a interpersonal process that reflects how openly individuals share personal information. We also examines how disclosure level contribute to ghosting behaviors and frequency. Studys participants focus on emerging adults. Across both studies, self-disclosure can be seen as a predictor for ghosting intentions. However the association between ghosting behavior was unsure, there was a mix result.
