Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages
I am currently an assistant professor in the department of Foreign Language Instruction at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Taiwan, teaching required advanced English classes. I earned my Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in May 2011. My dissertation, Whose Voices? Perceptions Concerning NNES and NES Tutors in the Writing Center, aims to discover if a diversified Academy really exists by discussing tutors’ and tutees’ perceptions concerning the role that NNES (non-native English speaking) and NES (native-English speaking) tutors play in a U.S. Midwestern university’s writing center. At SIUC from 2006 to 2011, I was a teaching assistant in various composition courses, such as Honors Advanced Freshman Composition, Intermediate Technical Communication, Composition I and II, and a tutor as well as assistant director in the writing center. Published in Praxis: A Writing Center Journal in 2013, my article, “The Idea of a Writing Center in Asian Countries: A Preliminary Search of Models in Taiwan,†reviews the centers placed at Taiwan’s six traditional public universities and investigates their development in the educational context of writing centers in Taiwan.
